Novel protein source - Our pasture raised, not intensively farmed New Zealand venison provides a clean, highly digestible, hypoallergenic food. Research shows that dogs & cats can develop food sensitivities after eating the same type of food over a long period of time. These sensitivities can range from upset tummies, vomiting, diarrhoea and loose stools, and can also show up with skin problems and allergies. Venison is one of the best novel proteins you can feed your pet as they have not developed any type of sensitivities to it. Big thumbs up venison!!
No Added Hormones or Growth Promotants – Our New Zealand venison is pasture raised, grass fed, outdoors, all year round. Only from fully traceable, approved New Zealand farms, with no added hormones, antibiotics or growth promotants. It’s pure & clean, just like the country side it’s raised in.
High in Iron – Venison is an outstanding source of iron. In fact, it is one of the best dietary sources of iron. This is because the iron of the venison is found in the ‘haem’ form which is much more easily absorbed than the ‘non-haem’ iron found in cereals and vegetables. Iron is extremely important for oxygen transport throughout your pet’s body, and it also helps create connective tissue. A big thumbs up!
High in Essential Minerals & Vitamins – Venison is a fantastic source of essential B vitamins, B12, B6 and B3. These B vitamins assist in the breakdown of protein, carbs and fat for energy, and they also help support red blood cell formulation. Pets that don’t get enough of these essential B vitamins are often short in energy, fatigued and are not thriving to their full potential. Vitamin B12 is listed under the AFCO model regulations as an essential vitamin or both dogs and cats.
Low Calories Venison is very low in calories compared to virtually all other meats. Just like you and me, choosing a protein low in calories is important to ensure your pet maintains a happy & healthy weight.
High in Protein – Venison is a great source of protein and contains no carbohydrate. Venison is considered a complete protein as it contains all of the 10 essential amino acids. What are amino acids you ask? Amino acids are what protein is actually made of. Every dog and cat has the natural ability to make their own amino acids except for ten very special ones… These ten essential amino acids are an absolute MUST to include in your pets diet, if not, your pet could suffer from various health issues. Low in Fat All animal meats tends to be high in saturated fat, but there are a few exceptions. Wild game meats, like our friend Venison, are low. This is often why people choose Venison as a protein choice when they are watching their weight.

We are very proud of this part of our story. Our ZiwiPeak venison comes from the most stunning hill and high country in the world, New Zealand. You have seen it in the movies Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The rocky terrain, windy valleys, blue streams & vast open spaces provide for excellent agriculture opportunities for the New Zealand people and our economy. Mainly from the South Island of New Zealand, our venison are both raised in the wild or raised in fully traceable, approved, friendly farming environments. Our venison are pasture raised, grass fed, and outdoors, all glorious year round.
